THE EPHEMERAL DELIGHTS OF CANDARIA : Chapter 2: The Saccharine Threshold and the Kingdom of Candaria

The underground path was long and twisty. But at the end, I
stepped into a magical world called Candaria—the Kingdom of Sweets.
The sky looked like clouds of colorful cotton candy. A light
sugary mist floated in the air. Everywhere I looked, the land was made of
delicious things:
- Theobroma
River – a wide river of hot chocolate with giant marshmallows floating
on top.
- Anisean
Heights – shiny rock-candy mountains with tall green Licorice Trees
dripping syrup.
- Gumdrop
Glades – bouncy jelly ground with massive gumdrops like bright jewels.

Even though I had already eaten a big meal, this place made
my stomach growl again!
Suddenly, a creature appeared near the river. It looked like
a toasted marshmallow shaped like a small child, with shiny jellybean eyes. It
spoke in a voice that sounded like ringing glass.
“Welcome, traveller. I am Mallow from the Custodial Corps.
You must be Sweet Guava—the new visitor.”
“I just followed a note…” I said, confused.
Mallow chuckled softly.
“Candaria has simple rules. Anyone who desires sweetness eventually finds their
way here. Come—King Icing and Queen Glaze are waiting for you in the Glaze
Citadel.”
