THE EPHEMERAL DELIGHTS OF CANDARIA : Chapter 3: The Glaze Citadel and the Cupcake Monarchy

THE GUAVA TALES

Mallow led me along a winding path made of colourful gumdrop stones. We climbed up a tall Jellybean Stalk that reached high into the sweet sky. As we moved higher, I noticed how busy Candaria was.

THE GUAVA TALES

All around us were candy people working together:

  • Wafer Guards walked carefully, protecting the land.
  • Candy-corn Scouts climbed trees and watched from above.
  • Caramel workers looked after sticky golden fields.

At the very top stood the Glaze Citadel.

THE GUAVA TALES

It was the most beautiful building I had ever seen. The walls were made of smooth white chocolate with golden icing designs. Tall towers made of spun sugar shone like glass in the light.

Inside, the throne room glittered. The floor looked like soft almond paste, and the air smelled sweet and warm.

That’s when I saw them.

👑 King Icing

He was a huge cupcake made of rich red velvet cake. On his head sat a thick swirl of cream-cheese frosting like a royal crown. His voice was deep and powerful.

THE GUAVA TALES

👑 Queen Glaze

She sat beside him on a lemon-meringue base. She glowed softly, covered in a delicate spun-sugar veil. She looked calm, kind, and wise.

THE GUAVA TALES

Sweet Guava,” King Icing said loudly, “you have answered an ancient call. Only those who truly love sweetness can find Candaria.”

THE GUAVA TALES

A small gummy-bear servant stepped forward and handed me a scroll.

“For one full Earth year,” the King announced, “you may eat, drink, and enjoy every sweet in Candaria. You will be protected and treated like royalty.”

THE GUAVA TALES

My heart jumped with excitement. This felt like the greatest dream ever!

But then Queen Glaze leaned forward and spoke gently.

“There is a price,” she said. “When the year ends, you will not return to your world. Your soul will become part of Candaria itself. You will turn into a sweet monument, helping our land survive.”

The room suddenly felt quiet.

It sounded scary, but the thought felt far away. A whole year of magic and sweets lay ahead of me.

I bowed quickly.
“I accept the Edict, Your Majesties.”

The King nodded.
“So be it.”

And just like that, my life changed forever.
